Two treatments, One Aligner
Invisalign now has the added benefit of a functional appliance. Traditionally, patients that have a severe overjet (meaning their lower jaw is set back) would need a removable brace to treat the bite before commencing straightening treatment with braces.
What is a functional orthodontic appliance?
These types of braces have a specific role in changing the relationship between the jaws and how the teeth bite together. An example is a “twin block” appliance that guides the lower jaw to sit in a forward position when the mouth is closed.
What are the benefits of the Invisalign® Mandibular Advancement?
Class II malocclusions in teens and tweens can be fixed with the Invisalign functional appliance (called mandibular advancement).
An upper and lower jaw that doesn’t align is called a class II malocclusion. Depending on how far back your lower jaw is, your doctor may suggest moving it forward before you straighten your teeth.
The Invisalign clear aligners with mandibular advancement are designed to straighten your teeth while moving the lower jaw forward without bulky appliances.
